Trying harder

The start of a new school year is always like another January to me. I make all these new resolutions about this school year i.e. I will make a hot breakfast for my kids every morning, the homework supplies will be well organized, healthy-well balanced creative lunches for my kids. This year I failed before school even started. This year I decided that I would be the Membership chair for the PTA. The membership drives are all at the beginning of the year so it is pretty busy right as school starts. By the time the kids actually had their first day, I had already spent the previous couple of weeks up at the school. I felt completely out of control. So this week I was determined to do better. The other kids had already started school, but Izzy was starting this week. It was a better week. I count microwave bacon as hot, and toast.
Izzy was very excited for her first week of school. She couldn't wait to get there and barely let me take her picture.

She even got her first homework packet and was excited to do homework with the rest of the kids. One of the pages of her homework was to have someone read a book to her. Cole (almost willingly) volunteered while I was making dinner.

Tuesday I spent the entire day up at the school. I arrived at 8:45, left briefly to grocery shop and get some lunch. Was back by noon, and left again to bring the kids home. Izzy was quite the trooper.

Izzy was able to go to school on Wednesday, but by Friday was running a fever and had a stomach ache. It was actually kind of nice to have a reason to not be able to leave the house, although I'm sorry she had to feel so crummy. In the afternoon we took a nap together on my bed and that was quite nice.

This weekend is a three day weekend because of Labor Day. Labor day is actually one of my favorite holidays. Not because we do anything, but it's the first day off after we've been scrambling to get back on a school schedule. It also marks the beginning of fall (don't try to tell me it doesn't start til the 23rd, fall starts September 1st)

*Oh worst thing that happened this week... When one of the other preschool moms asked me when my baby was due... sigh....

I agree, the "when are you due" incident was probably the worst think (or worst case of non-think) that the other preschool mom had ever had :)
