Jack played on the K-1 team. This was his first year playing and he was quite good. He made a basket at all but a couple of his games. He would try to get in there and get the ball. Alot of the other kids would duck if the ball was coming toward them, but Jack was ready to get it and try for that basket. At his age, they are still trying to teach the basics and they don't keep score or call fouls, or traveling so it was fun to watch kids get the balls and run to their basket as the coach and ref were behind them reminding them that they had to dribble.

Riian was in the 3-4 grade girls league. She was quite good. Very agressive and her defense was excellent. The very first game she was afraid of fighting for the ball or getting in the middle of things for fear of hurting someone or not playing fairly, but after we assured her that it was ok to play a little more aggresively, she really was quite good. They still don't keep score at this age, but they are a little less lenient with the travelling.

Cole was our most improved player over the season. This was his first time ever playing. One of his good friends at school asked him if he would play so he said yes. He was very glad he did. His whole team was comprised of really good friends. In his league, 5-6 grade boys, they play by all the rules, and keep score. He was very tentative the first few games. Nate and I kept telling him because of his height, he had an advantage and he just had to get in there and use it. About 3 weeks into the season, we fixed his asthma medicine and told him that he was able to get 5 fouls per game so he should use them. His coaches were also wonderful, and by the end of the season, he was one of the most valuable players. He was really agressive, getting in there and fighting for those balls. He used his height to jump and block shots. He was the center, and his job was to protect the net, which he did admirably. The team ended up winning 5 of their 8 games. He had so much fun and can't wait to do it next year.

I've never been a fan of watching live basketball, but when it was my kids it was so much different. The games were really fun and Nate and I had a great time watching them. All of them want to play again next year, which I think is a great testament to their coaches and how they strived to make it fun for them as well as teach them.
Next up, baseball...
